About this screen
The 200-day moving average is the most widely followed measure of a stock's long-term trend. Many investors only hold stocks trading above it, and a sustained position above the line is often treated as a sign of institutional support. This screen adds a return-on-equity floor, so the list favors profitable businesses rather than every stock that happens to be rising.
Stocks far above their 200-day average can be extended and prone to pullbacks toward it. Compare the distance from the 50-day average and the RSI in the Technicals tab to judge whether a move is stretched. The Valuation tab shows whether the uptrend has pushed P/E and other multiples well above the company's usual range.
Stocks Above the 200-Day Moving Average FAQ
Which quality stocks are above their 200-day moving average?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 265 stocks with a market cap above $5 billion and ROE of 15% or more traded at least 5% above their 200-day moving average. The furthest above it were Hinge Health, Inc. (HNGE), Qualys, Inc. (QLYS) and Caris Life Sciences, Inc. (CAI).
What is the 200-day moving average?
It is the average closing price over the last 200 trading days, roughly ten months. Plotted on a chart, it smooths out daily noise and shows the long-term direction.
Why do traders watch the 200-day moving average?
It is a simple trend filter: prices above it suggest an uptrend, below it a downtrend. Because so many investors watch it, it often acts as support or resistance.
