About this screen
Steel companies produce the flat and long products used in construction, cars, appliances, energy and machinery. Demand rises and falls with industrial activity, and prices react quickly to imports, tariffs and capacity changes, which makes steel one of the most cyclical industries. Producers include electric arc furnace mini-mills that melt scrap and integrated mills that make steel from iron ore.
The list opens on the Valuation tab. Steel stocks often look cheapest on P/E near the top of a cycle, when earnings are at their highest, so P/B and FCF yield can give a steadier picture. Compare dividend yield with payout ratio, because cyclical earnings can make dividends hard to sustain in a downturn. Foreign steelmakers with US-listed ADRs are included.
Steel Stocks FAQ
How many steel stocks are listed in the US?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 16 US-listed steelmakers had a market cap of $300 million or more. The largest companies on the list are Nucor Corporation (NUE), ArcelorMittal S.A. (MT) and Steel Dynamics, Inc. (STLD).
What is the difference between a mini-mill and an integrated mill?
A mini-mill melts scrap metal in an electric arc furnace and can be started or slowed quickly, which keeps costs flexible. An integrated mill turns iron ore and coal into steel in blast furnaces, a larger and less flexible process.
Why do steel stocks trade at low P/E ratios?
Investors expect high steel prices and earnings to fade as the cycle turns, so they do not pay much for peak profits. A low P/E in a cyclical industry can signal that earnings are near a high rather than that the stock is cheap.
