About this screen
Banks earn money by lending at higher rates than they pay depositors, plus fees from cards, payments, wealth management and investment banking. This screen keeps large banks with a market cap of at least $10 billion, a price-to-book ratio of 2 or less and a dividend yield of 2% or more. Together those criteria point to established lenders that return cash to shareholders without trading at a steep premium.
Most bank investors start with four numbers: P/E, P/B, dividend yield and return on equity. The Valuation tab covers the first two, and the Profitability tab shows ROE, which indicates whether a bank deserves a higher book multiple. Banks with high ROE usually trade above book value. Credit quality and deposit costs are not in the table, so check them in each bank's reports.
Best Bank Stocks to Buy in 2026 FAQ
Which large bank stocks meet these criteria?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 32 banks with a market cap of at least $10 billion traded at 2 times book value or less and yielded 2% or more. The largest companies on the list are Bank of America Corporation (BAC), HSBC Holdings plc (HSBC) and Wells Fargo & Company (WFC).
Why is price-to-book important for bank stocks?
A bank's assets are mostly loans and securities carried near their market value, so book value is a reasonable estimate of what the bank owns. P/B compares the share price with that value and is a standard way to compare banks.
What is a good ROE for a bank?
Many investors treat a return on equity of 10% or more as solid for a bank, and 15% or more as strong. ROE should be read with the bank's capital level, since more leverage can raise ROE while adding risk.
