About this screen
Volume shows how many shares changed hands. When a stock trades several times its usual amount, something has usually changed: an earnings report, guidance update, analyst move, deal announcement, index addition or a large holder buying or selling. Traders scan for unusual volume because big moves on heavy volume are more likely to reflect real repositioning than moves on thin trading.
Relative volume is the last session's volume divided by the 3-month average. Spikes are common on index rebalancing and options expiration days, when they may say little about the company. Check the 1-day change column to see the direction of the move, and the company's news before drawing conclusions. The list is rebuilt after every session.
Unusual Volume Stocks FAQ
Which stocks had unusual volume today?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 84 stocks with a market cap above $300 million traded at least three times their 3-month average volume. The highest relative volume was at ADT Inc. (ADT), Formula Systems (1985) Ltd. (FORTY) and Gray Television Inc (GTNA).
What is relative volume?
Relative volume compares a day's trading volume with the stock's average. A value of 3 means three times as many shares traded as on a typical day.
Why does unusual volume matter?
Large volume often accompanies new information and shows that many investors are acting on it. Price moves on heavy volume are generally considered more meaningful than moves on light volume.
