About this screen

A beta of 1.8 or more means a stock has moved, on average, nearly twice as much as the market. These are often companies with heavy debt, cyclical earnings or valuations built on distant growth, such as early-stage technology, crypto-related businesses and some industrials. Active traders favor them in rising markets because they tend to amplify gains.

The same leverage works on the way down, and high-beta stocks usually lead declines in sell-offs. Beta comes from five years of monthly returns, so recent changes in a business may not be reflected yet. The Performance tab shows how the group has done over the past year, and the Technicals tab shows RSI and trend.

High Beta Stocks FAQ

Which stocks have the highest beta?

As of the October 29, 2026 close, 240 US-listed stocks with a market cap above $1 billion had a 5-year beta of 1.8 or more. The highest betas belong to Strive, Inc. (ASST), SharpLink Gaming Ltd. (SBET) and Sezzle Inc. (SEZL).

What is considered a high beta?

Any beta above 1 means the stock has been more volatile than the market. Values of 1.5 and above are usually called high, and 2 or more is very high.

How is beta calculated?

Beta is the covariance of the stock's returns with the market's returns divided by the variance of the market's returns. Here it uses five years of monthly returns against the S&P 500.
