About this screen
Homebuilders buy land, develop lots and build single-family homes, townhomes and communities for sale. Their orders depend on mortgage rates, household formation, consumer confidence and the supply of existing homes for sale, so the stocks often move ahead of the housing market. A shortage of homes has supported demand over long periods, while rate swings drive sharp moves in between.
The list opens on the Valuation tab. Homebuilders often trade at low P/E and close to book value because investors discount peak-cycle earnings, so compare P/B with ROE in the Profitability tab to see which builders earn more on their equity. Debt/equity shows balance-sheet risk going into a downturn, and % from 52-week high in the Technicals view shows how much the market has already priced in.
Homebuilder Stocks FAQ
How many homebuilder stocks are listed in the US?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 17 US-listed residential construction companies had a market cap of $500 million or more. The largest companies on the list are D.R. Horton, Inc. (DHI), PulteGroup, Inc. (PHM) and Lennar Corporation (LEN).
How do mortgage rates affect homebuilder stocks?
Higher mortgage rates raise monthly payments and reduce how much buyers can afford, which slows orders. Builders often respond with rate buydowns and incentives that lower margins. Falling rates tend to have the opposite effect, and the stocks often react to rate expectations before sales change.
Why is price-to-book used for homebuilders?
A builder's book value is mostly land and homes under construction, assets that can be valued reasonably well. Price-to-book gives a measure that is less affected by the cycle than P/E, which swings with earnings.
