About this screen

Oil and gas producers find and extract crude oil and natural gas. Integrated majors also refine, transport and market fuels, which smooths their earnings, while exploration and production (E&P) companies are pure upstream businesses whose profits rise and fall closely with commodity prices. Investors use the group for energy exposure, inflation protection and, in many cases, cash returns through dividends and buybacks.

The list is sorted by market cap and opens on the Valuation tab. FCF yield is often the most useful number here, since capital spending swings widely through the cycle. Add the Dividends tab for yield and payout ratio, and check debt/equity in the Profitability view, because leveraged producers are hit hardest when prices drop. Refiners, drillers and service companies are classified in separate industries and are left out.

Oil and Gas Stocks FAQ

How many oil and gas stocks are listed in the US?

As of the October 29, 2026 close, 56 integrated and E&P oil and gas companies had a market cap of $1 billion or more. The largest companies on the list are Exxon Mobil Corporation (XOM), Chevron Corporation (CVX) and Shell plc (SHEL).

What is an E&P company?

E&P stands for exploration and production. These companies acquire drilling rights, find reserves and pump oil and gas out of the ground, then sell it at market prices. They do not refine or retail fuel.

How do oil prices affect oil and gas stocks?

Higher prices raise revenue and margins, especially for E&P companies with high fixed costs, so their shares often move with crude and natural gas prices. Integrated majors are partly cushioned because refining margins can improve when crude prices fall.
