About this screen
Gold mining companies explore for, develop and operate gold mines, while royalty and streaming companies finance mines in exchange for a share of future production. Mining costs are largely fixed, so a rise in the gold price flows mostly to profit, which is why miners tend to move more than the metal itself. Investors use them as a leveraged way to gain exposure to gold.
The list is sorted by market cap and opens on the Valuation tab. P/E and FCF yield change quickly as the gold price moves, so compare them across companies at the same point in time rather than with past years. Royalty companies usually have higher margins and lower costs than operators. Compare 1Y performance with a gold ETF to see whether miners have kept pace with the metal.
Gold Mining Stocks FAQ
How many gold mining stocks are listed in the US?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 40 US-listed gold companies had a market cap of $500 million or more. The largest companies on the list are Newmont Corporation (NEM), Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (AEM) and Barrick Mining Corporation (B).
Why do gold miners move more than the gold price?
A miner's costs per ounce change slowly, so a higher gold price raises profit by a larger percentage than the price itself. The same leverage works in reverse when gold falls. Operational problems, cost inflation and country risk add further volatility.
What is a gold streaming company?
A streaming company pays a miner upfront in return for the right to buy a share of future production at a fixed, low price. It avoids most operating costs and risks, which typically gives it high margins.
