About this screen

Value investing looks for companies whose shares trade cheaply compared with their earnings or assets. This screen combines two classic measures: a P/E ratio of 15 or less and a price-to-book ratio of 2 or less. Only profitable companies have a P/E, so loss-making firms are excluded.

Cheap stocks are sometimes cheap for a reason. Compare growth, margins and debt in the Growth and Profitability tabs, and keep in mind that low multiples are normal in some sectors, such as banks and insurers.

Value Stocks FAQ

Which large US stocks have the lowest P/E ratios?

As of the October 26, 2026 close, 300 stocks with a market cap above $2 billion had a P/E of 15 or less and a price-to-book ratio of 2 or less. The lowest P/E ratios were Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEP), Lyft, Inc. (LYFT) and Charter Communications, Inc. (CHTR).

What is a good P/E ratio?

There is no single answer: it depends on the industry and on expected growth. The long-run average P/E of the S&P 500 is around 15 to 20, so a P/E below 15 is generally considered low.

What does price-to-book mean?

Price-to-book (P/B) compares the share price with the company's net assets per share. A P/B below 1 means the stock trades for less than its accounting value.
