About this screen
Medical device companies make the equipment hospitals and clinics use every day: surgical robots, orthopedic implants, heart valves, patient monitors, glucose sensors and disposable supplies such as catheters and syringes. Procedure volumes rise with an aging population, and products protected by patents and regulatory approvals can hold their market share for years. Investors often value the group on its record of steady revenue growth and high gross margins.
The list opens on the Growth tab so you can compare quarterly revenue growth with 3- and 5-year growth rates and spot companies whose growth is speeding up or slowing. Margins in the Profitability tab show which product lines have pricing power. Large one-time charges for recalls or litigation can distort EPS growth and P/E, so check revenue trends before drawing conclusions from earnings.
Medical Device Stocks FAQ
How many medical device stocks are there?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 71 US-listed medical device and instrument makers had a market cap of $1 billion or more. The largest companies on the list are Envoy Medical, Inc. (COCH), Abbott Laboratories (ABT) and Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG).
Are medical device stocks defensive?
Partly. Many procedures are medically necessary and continue in a recession, and consumables are bought repeatedly. Elective procedures, hospital capital budgets and reimbursement changes can still cause sales to swing.
How are medical devices regulated in the US?
The FDA classifies devices into three classes by risk. Low-risk devices face general controls, many moderate-risk devices are cleared through the 510(k) process, and high-risk implants usually need premarket approval with clinical data. Approval timelines can affect when new products start contributing revenue.
