About the data

All numbers come from US government agencies – the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Federal Reserve, the Census Bureau, the Energy Information Administration, the Federal Housing Finance Agency and the Treasury – through FRED, the database of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. They are public-domain statistics. Quotelinks checks for new releases every day; most indicators are monthly, GDP growth, home prices and the national debt are quarterly. Daily series such as Treasury yields and oil prices are shown as monthly averages. Recession dates are from the National Bureau of Economic Research.
