About the 30-year Treasury yield
The 30-year Treasury yield is the return on the longest bond the US Treasury sells. It reflects investors’ long-run expectations for inflation and growth plus a term premium for tying up money for three decades.
Pension funds and insurers watch it closely, and it sets the floor for very long-term borrowing costs. Note that the Treasury stopped issuing 30-year bonds from 2002 to 2006, so the series has a gap in those years. The chart shows monthly averages of daily yields.
