About this screen
Long-term Treasury ETFs hold US government bonds that mature in 20 to 30 years, or zero-coupon strips with even longer durations. They carry almost no credit risk, so their price depends on long-term interest rates. Investors use them as a hedge against stock market declines, which have often coincided with falling rates, or to express a view that rates will drop.
Duration tells you how much each fund moves for a 1-point change in rates: a duration of 17 means roughly a 17% price change. Zero-coupon funds have the longest durations and the largest swings. Compare yield to maturity and duration on the Bonds tab, and drawdowns on the Risk tab, before treating these funds as low risk.
Long-Term Treasury ETFs FAQ
How many long-term Treasury ETFs are there?
As of the October 29, 2026 close, 5 Treasury and government bond ETFs had a duration of 15 years or more. The largest by assets are Vanguard Extended Duration Treasury ETF (EDV), PIMCO 25+ Year Zero Coupon U.S. Treasury Index Exchange-Traded Fund (ZROZ) and iShares 25+ Year Treasury STRIPS Bond ETF (GOVZ).
How much do long-term Treasury ETFs move when rates change?
Roughly by their duration. A fund with a duration of 16 years would lose about 16% if long-term rates rose by 1 percentage point and gain about the same if they fell, before counting the interest it earns.
What is a zero-coupon Treasury ETF?
It holds Treasury strips, bonds that pay no interest and are bought at a discount to their face value. Because all of the return comes at maturity, their duration equals their maturity, which makes them more rate-sensitive than regular long-term Treasury funds.
