Terra Classic (LUNC)

Terra (LUNA) emerged from the original Terra Classic blockchain, which initially launched in January 2018 and officially went live in April 2019. At its inception, Terra Classic aimed to blend the stability and widespread acceptance of fiat currencies with the censorship-resistant properties of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC). One of its flagship innovations was the introduction of the algorithmic stablecoin TerraClassicUSD (UST). Unfortunately, the UST stablecoin faced significant challenges, leading to a bank run in May 2022 that severely devalued the collateralized LUNC token and ultimately necessitated a reboot of the blockchain.

Following the instability caused by the UST collapse, Terra Classic underwent a transformation, leading to the birth of the new Terra blockchain. This re-envisioned network retained the foundational principles of Terra Classic but without the UST stablecoin. Instead, it focused on enhancing the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) while continuing to foster the vibrant community of LUNA token holders known as "LUNAtics." The new Terra blockchain attracted numerous decentralized applications (DApps) from Terra Classic, ensuring continuity and further development within the ecosystem. Despite the setbacks faced by Terra Classic, the evolution to Terra signifies a renewed commitment to building a robust and sustainable blockchain infrastructure.
